Design, Engineering and Technology

Curriculum Intent

Design, Engineering and Technology education gives our students the opportunity to develop key knowledge, skills, concepts and values which are applied to solve a range of different problems to improve daily life and the wider world.

Students work in different contexts through a project-based approach allowing them to explore their own thoughts and ideas.

Students develop knowledge, skills and expertise in;

  • Designing and Making skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials, tools and processes
  • Creativity and innovation and problem solving
  • Computer Aided Design and Manufacture skills
  • Principles of health and nutrition and how to cook
  • Scientific and mathematical applications
  • Awareness of the environment and mankind’s impact

The nature of Technology based subjects is so diverse that all students can achieve success in some aspect. Students will be equipped to for many different paths and careers, allowing them to tackle real life problems. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
