SEND And Inclusion

Our SENDco is Mrs Johanna Gash.

A SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) is a teacher who coordinates the provision for children with special educational needs or disabilities in schools.
The role of the SENDCo is as the expert in the school on all Special Educational Needs.   They will not be directly involved with every child with SEND but will coordinate the interventions and advice the Pastoral Team on how best to support every child.
The SENDCo will lead on all students with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).
If you would like to meet with Mrs Gash, an appointment can be made with her, please use the following link… https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/SENCOBookings@srscmat.co.uk/bookings/ or email SEND@ben.srscmat.co.uk
All schools are supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils’ with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible.
The four broad ‘areas of need’ are defined as:
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties
  • Sensory and Physical Needs
At our school, we are committed to ensuring that every child is supported to thrive.

What is SEND and Inclusion?

As a school, we actively work towards meeting the rights and duties introduced by the SEN and Disabilities Act and pursue an approach based on ‘Inclusion’.
By this we seek to ensure the presence, participation and achievement of all pupils.  We have achieved the Inclusion Quality Mark through our work with Derby City Council.
