TikTok
It has come to our attention that there are several Tik Tok accounts being set up by Saint Benedict students, that contain pictures or video clips of other students without their permission. These have been reported to Tik Tok and the Police.
As outlined in the previous safeguarding newsletter, it is illegal for students to use Tik Tok if they are under 13 years of age, or to post media without a student’s permission.
We cannot stress enough, the importance of checking your child’s mobile device on a regular basis to ensure their safety as well as checking that they are behaving in an appropriate manner. Please ensure that they have got their privacy settings set to private if they are using social media applications.
Information on how to set a TikTok account can be found here:
If your child has created any inappropriate material, please delete and close the account.
If you find any other videos or accounts that you would like to report, then please do the following.
- Let us know at safeguarding@ben.srscmat.co.uk
- Inform Tik Tok using the instructions here; https://support.tiktok.com/en/safety-hc/report-a-problem/report-a-video
- If you find any offensive content then please report to the Police by calling 101 or you can report online at;

Many Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
Well done to the cast of our school show, Hairspray, who sang at the Commonwealth baton relay at Moorways Sports Village in Derby! The relay began in October 2021 and is on a route to visit all 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth.
Our Open Evening will take place on September 29th 2022 from 5 to 8pm. Our new Headteacher, Mrs Boyce, will give her address at 6pm and 7pm. We would love to see you there if your child is in Year 5 or Year 6 in September. Click on the image below to expand.
Congratulations to Ysabella in Year 8 who won Derby Schools Public Speaking Competition on Friday. Six of our students were also finalists in the city-wide competition.
Students worked with the Lost Boys Theatre Company and participated in a series of workshops before the competition. They then delivered their own speech and the winner, Ysabella, picked up a trophy in recognition of her efforts. Well done to everyone involved!
Year 8 students have been visiting their former primary schools in the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust to support Year 6 pupils with the transition process. Year 8 students were asked to write letters stating why they should be chosen to visit their old school and those selected have visited St Joseph’s, St George’s, St Alban’s, St Mary’s, St John Fisher and St Elizabeth’s. Mr Thornhill, Head of Year 8, said he was extremely proud of Year 8. Well done to everyone involved!

I am delighted to inform you that the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust has appointed Mrs Hazel Boyce as Headteacher at Saint Benedict CVA with effect from 1 September 2022.
In order to ensure the school has the best possible opportunity to flourish, the appointment of school staff, and of Headteachers in particular, follows a robust and detailed process. This system was just as rigorous for Mrs Boyce, despite her already undertaking the role of Senior Deputy Headteacher.
The Trust, the Local Governing Body and the school staff have every confidence in Mrs Boyce’s ability. With your continued support, and the commitment of your wonderful children, I am sure she will help take Saint Benedict from strength to strength.
Sean McClafferty
CEO St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust
Owing to changes in Government guidelines and the move to Plan B and Level 4 Covid advice, we have taken the decision for pupils to wear masks in classrooms as well as communal areas. This is in a bid to keep numbers at Saint Benedict low in the run up to Christmas to keep you all safe. Thank you for your continued support.
